Kwando Lebala Camp

Kwando Lebala Camp is set in the extensive grasslands and seasonal flood plains of the Linyanti marshes, within the private Kwando Concession.

Kwando Lebala Camp is set in the extensive grasslands and seasonal floodplains of the Linyanti marshes. It is one of only two camps – the other being its sister camp, Kwando Lagoon – within the Kwando Game Reserve, Botswana's largest private concession.

Situated between Chobe and the Okavango Delta, this is a region famous for its superb game-viewing. Lebala, which roughly translated means "wide open plains" in Setswana, overlooks a vast wilderness teeming with game. The region is particularly noted for its huge elephant and buffalo populations, which appear in their greatest numbers during the dry season (June to Oct), as well as wild dog, which den in the area during June and July.

Kwando Lebala Camp is located about 30km south of Kwando Lagoon Camp. Both camps are a similar standard and charge the same rates - it's common combine the two so as to see different sections of the Kwando Reserve. Those intent on seeing wild dog, Kwando's great attraction, should consider Lagoon Camp, where sightings are more reliable (though by no means guaranteed!)

Accommodation

Kwando Lebala Camp offers nine spacious tents elegantly furnished in Rhodesian teak. The en suite bathrooms have his and her basins, a clawfoot bath and an outside shower for bathing under the stars! Each tent has a large verandah at the front, with a view over the Kwando-Linyanti floodplains, meaning great game-viewing can be experienced from the comfort of your tent.

One of the tents at Lebala is a family unit, with a connecting room with twin beds.

Dining

A light campfire breakfast of porridge and cereals starts the day at Kwando Lebala, followed by a buffet brunch on return from the morning's game activity. Dinner is a three-course affair, served by candlelight in the dining room. Nightcaps around the fire usually follow dinner.
