Walking the Scottish Highlands

Spend 7 nights in the Scottish Highlands on this fully-guided private walking itinerary

Walking the Scottish Highlands

Explore the Scottish Highlands in the company of an expert guide on this private walking itinerary. Over the course of 7 days, you’ll hike lesser-known trails as well as some classic Scottish walks. In the Cairngorms, you’ll discover remote mountain glens and sparkling lochs – and maybe bag a munro or two! - while at Glencoe and Loch Leven, you’ll be able to capture some of Scotland’s most famous landscapes. The itinerary finishes with a climb to the summit of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s tallest peak.

Outline Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive Inverness

Make your own way to Inverness for one night (B&B) at the Kingsmills Hotel, or a similar 4-star property.

  2. Day 2: Transfer to the Cairngorms

You will be met by your driver/guide in Inverness this morning, and together make your way to the Cairngorms National Park in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

  3. Day 3: Full-day hike in Glen Feshie

Today will be spent exploring Glen Feshie. This wild and beautiful glen, or valley, was formerly a deer stalking estate but has in recent years been carefully and sensitively returned to its wild roots with the restoration of its ancient Caledonian pine forests and a resurgence of species such as wildcat, otter and capercaillie.

  4. Day 4: Classic Cairngorms full-day hike

Today you’ll enjoy fabulous vistas of the Cairngorm cliffs as you climb the rocky pass known as the Chalamain Gap. This boulder-filled dip opens out to views of the slopes of mighty Braeriach, the tallest of the Cairngorms peaks and the third highest mountain in the UK.

  5. Day 5: Hike Loch Gynack & transfer to Fort William

Starting directly from your hotel this morning, you’ll journey through woodland and into the foothills of the Monadhliath mountains, located just north of Kingussie on the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park.

  6. Day 6: Full-day Glen Coe hike

The dramatic mountains and ridges of Glen Coe have featured as the backdrop to many films and are a fixture of depictions of the Scottish Highlands; looking up at the summits, it is easy to see why!

  7. Day 7: Ben Nevis

Take on the challenge of the highest mountain in the UK today, starting from almost sea level and climbing all the way up to the 1,345m summit.

  8. Day 8: Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before transferring back to Inverness, where you say goodbye to your guide.
