Day 1: Arrive Victoria Falls – Overnight Pioneers Lodge
Arrive Victoria Falls. On clearing immigration, you will be met and transferred to Pioneers Lodge, or similar, for two nights on B&B basis.
Pioneers Lodge
Pioneers Victoria Falls is situated in a residential area of Victoria Falls town, just a few kilometres from the entrance gate to the Victoria Falls. It offers 50 en-suite rooms, all of them air-conditioned and with (limited) wifi. Each opens onto a private verandah overlooking the garden and pool area.At the heart of the lodge is a snug lounge, an indoor and outdoor dining area, curio shop, as well as a terrace opening onto the pool and garden area.
Dinner this evening is to own account.
NB. Please note that this itinerary runs in reverse on alternate dates, starting Maun and ending at Victoria Falls. This itinerary gives the southbound routing, beginning Victoria Falls and ending Maun.
Day 2: At leisure at Victoria Falls
Today is at leisure for you to visit the Victoria Falls, enjoy any other local activities of interest, and to relax at the lodge. Please note that the entrance fee to Victoria Falls is payable locally.
In addition to visits to the Victoria Falls, there are a great array of activities available in the region, from white water rafting and canoeing in the Zambezi Gorge, to microlight flights over the Falls, and cruises on the Zambezi River. Activities can be arranged locally or in advance.
Day 3: Chobe National Park – Chobe Elephant Camp
Your safari begins in Victoria Falls this morning. You will be met by your guide and the rest of your group after breakfast and, following a short briefing on the journey ahead, you’ll begin your adventure!
Your itinerary takes you west from Victoria Falls and into Botswana via the Kazungula border. After clearing the border, continue via Kasane to Chobe Elephant Camp, your home for the next two nights, arriving in time for a late lunch. Today’s drive will take you through the northern region of Chobe National Park, with game viewing opportunities en route.
Chobe Elephant Camp
Chobe Elephant Camp is remotely situated outside of Mabele, near the less-frequented north-western entrance to Chobe National Park, where it perches on a rocky ridge overlooking the Chobe floodplains. From this isolated position, Chobe Elephant Camp offers guided game drives and river boat safaris in the National Park (access is via the western Ngoma Gate, approx. 10 minutes’ drive from the camp).Chobe Elephant Camp offers eighteen individual chalets, scattered along the edge of the escarpment and with a view onto the Chobe floodplains. Each has a private verandah with canvas chairs, from where you can sit and enjoy views of the game crossing the floodplains.
Day 4: Chobe National Park
Today will be spent exploring Chobe from your base in the north of the park. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the region both by 4x4 and by boat on the Chobe River, before returning to Chobe Elephant Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Moremi/Khwai – Khwai Guesthouse
Today’s journey will take you south through Chobe National Park and into the eastern regions of the Okavango Delta. This is a lengthy, full-day drive, but with wonderful game viewing opportunities en route, as you travel through the central regions of Chobe NP and into the Savuti area, where you’ll stop for a picnic lunch.
Your destination today is Khwai Guesthouse, your base for the next three days as you explore the north-eastern regions of the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve.
Khwai Guesthouse
Located on the edge of Khwai village, within the wider Khwai Community Concession, Khwai Guesthouse serves as an excellent base from which to explore the eastern reaches of the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve.A welcoming and unostentatious lodge, the design at Khwai Guesthouse is a blend of African and modern furnishings. Furniture is locally-crafted and the décor makes the most of vibrant fabrics and colours. The main guest area is largely open with canvas sides and fixed stone benches. The easy setting encourages socialising with other guests, but the public areas are very spacious meaning you’ll be able to find a space for yourself when you prefer peace and quiet! Meals are served at a communal table in the main guest area or outside near the campfire, weather-allowing. Other facilities include a small swimming pool.
The rooms at Khwai Guesthouse consist of self-contained bungalows (8 double/twin rooms and 2 family units), all of which are en-suite with open-air showers.
Day 6-7: Okavango Delta and Moremi
The next two days will be spent exploring the eastern Okavango, enjoying morning and afternoon game drives. You’ll also have a chance to enjoy a mokoro excursion in Moremi Game Reserve in the company of experienced local guides & polers.
At the end of each day you’ll return to Khwai Guesthouse for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Makgadikgadi – Boteti River Camp
Continue your journey south to Maun, arriving in time for lunch in a local restaurant (to own account).
After lunch, travel south-west to the Makgadikgadi National Park entrance gate at Khumaga, arriving at your lodge, Boteti River Camp in time for lunch.
Boteti River Camp
Opened in late 2018, Boteti River Camp serves as a convenient gateway to the western region of Makgadikgadi National Park, focused on the Boteti River. It is a small and cosy lodge with seven guest chalets centered on a central hub area including bar, restaurant and small pool. Painted in light pastel hues, Boteti’s pretty chalets and dining terrace are almost Mediterranean in style, while the lounge viewing deck is a lovely spot at which to relax, furnished with comfy sofas and with views onto the Boteti River.The afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the lodge facilities. If of interest to the group, a guided tour of nearby Khumaga village can also be organised this afternoon – do discuss this with your guide if you’d like to join the tour.
Day 9-10: Deception Valley Reserve, Central Kalahari – Dune Camp
This morning, enjoy a game drive in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, following the course of the Boteti River. Following the game drive in Makgadikgadi NP, continue your journey south and into Deception Valley, a private reserve on the northern border of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Here you stay two nights at Dune Camp.
Dune Camp
Dune Camp is located within Deception Valley Private Reserve, on the northern boundary of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, where it sits on an isolated sand ridge, surrounded on all sides by the vast desert plains of the Central Kalahari.Dune Camp accommodates its guests in eight spacious en-suite chalets, each with a private verandah with a view onto the Kalahari. The rooms are very spacious inside, with an interior seating area, and a large en-suite bathroom with shower (some rooms also with free-standing bathtubs).
The camp’s central hub area is built across two floors and incorporates a bar, dining area, and an upper floor viewing lounge, with views onto a nearby watering hole that often attracts wildlife, especially during the dry season. Outside is a communal boma with fireplace and a small swimming pool.
Dune Camp will be your base for the next two days as you explore the region on guided game drives. During your stay in Deception Valley, you’ll also have a chance to enjoy a guided bush walk in the company of San Bushmen game trackers. They will share their formidable knowledge of the Kalahari and its wildlife with you, as you explore the reserve at a gentle pace.
Day 11: Safari ends in Maun
Depart the Central Kalahari this morning and return to Maun, arriving approx. noon.
Your safari ends at Maun Airport. We can help with your onward transfer arrangements or post-tour accommodation if required.
