Day 1: Gondwana Game Reserve
On arrival at Gondwana Game Reserve, check-in at the Tented Eco Camp for five nights on full board basis, incl. conservation activities and game drives / exc. beverages (alcohol and soft drinks), and reserve conservation fee (R200 per stay).
Eco Camp
Your base during the elephant conservation programme, Gondwana Tented Eco Camp is a low-impact camp situated close to the heart of the Gondwana Reserve. Positioned within a valley blanketed in Cape Fynbos, the stylish solar-powered camp accommodates its guests in five spacious twin or double tents, all set on raised wooden platforms with a view into the valley.Each tent features a bathroom with solar-heated shower, toilet, vanity sink area, as well as a covered deck area.
All meals are provided in the main tent which houses an open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area. The covered outdoor lounge area is a lovely spot to relax during the day, while the dining boma is the spot for meals under the stars on clear nights. A pool area with deck chairs and hammocks, as well as an outdoor shower, complete the facilities.
Day 2-5: Gondwana Game Reserve
Gondwana is an 11,000 hectare malaria-free game reserve located on the Garden Route, and within easy reach of Cape Town. As well as big 5 game-viewing, it offers an in-depth conservation experience for those wanting a more involved safari. Participants will learn about wildlife and veld management, taking on board important bush skills and interpretation, in addition to volunteering with the local community.
You’ll spend five days at Gondwana, working with the conservation team on a number of projects. Your activities each day are not fixed but rather will vary depending on the current focus of the conservation team, They might include: wildlife management, monitoring of the Cape Leopard cameras, bird identification, bush skills, veld management and community work.
This isn’t to say the programme will feel like work – your research will be conducted via game drives and bush walks on the reserve, with plenty of downtime between the wildlife monitoring!
This is a great importunity to get involved with the important conservation work of a big five game reserve and not only enjoy, but contribute.
Day 6: Departure
Depart Gondwana after breakfast. We can arrange for your transfer to Cape Town or your next destination if continuing your holiday.
