Day 1: Arusha to Kogatende, Serengeti
Transfer to Arusha airport for your flight to Kogatende, in the northern Serengeti, where you will be met on arrival at the airstrip and transferred to Mkombe’s House, your home for the next 5 nights, with game drive en route.
While in the Serengeti, you will stay in the very exclusive Mkombe’s House.
Opened in July 2015, Mkombe’s House is a four-bedroom, self-contained house that is perfectly suited for families (there’s no minimum age for children) or a group of friends wanting to enjoy a totally exclusive safari, away from the crowded regions of the central Serengeti!
The house comes with a private 4x4 safari vehicle and a full complement of staff, including a dedicated guide and an in-house chef, who will prepare sumptuous meals of your choice to be enjoyed indoors in the cosy dining room or on the terrace with a view of the surrounding wilderness.
Day 2-5: Northern Serengeti
The next four days are free for you to explore the Northern Serengeti to your heart’s content. With a private guide and vehicle, you set the pace—you may like to break up the day with morning and afternoon game drives, or spend a full-day in the wild, stopping to enjoy a picnic lunch on the plains.
Simply teeming with game, the Serengeti is one of the largest and greatest game reserves in Africa, unequalled in scale and diversity. It is amongst the oldest and most complex eco-systems on earth, and in its essential features has barely changed in the past hundred thousand years. A unique combination of diverse habitats, ranging from clay pans and wooded grasslands to the endless savannah plains for which the region is famous, enables it to support a wealth of game, including 60 large mammal and over 500 bird species.
The game-viewing is stunning all-year round in the Serengeti, whichever section of the park you happen to be in. The ‘Big 5’ are a constant fixture, but perhaps more significant, the Serengeti boasts the greatest concentration of plains game anywhere in the world, with an estimated two million wildebeest, half a million gazelle, and 250,000 zebra. Among the other species regularly seen are eland, impala, waterbuck, baboon, monkey, warthog and topi.
The Serengeti is of course most famous for the dramatic annual wildebeest migration and your accommodation is perfectly placed to witness this amazing spectacle between July and October.
