Canberra is home to some excellent museums and galleries, such as the National Gallery of Australia, which houses the largest collection of indigenous art in the country, ranging from dot and bark paintings to textiles, ceramics and sculptures.

While in the capital be sure to visit Parliament House, with its national flag as big as a double decker bus and a fabulous panoramic view of Canberra from the roof.

Visit Canberra during spring and you can experience the Floriade, where the gardens of Commonwealth Park are painted with spring flowers to produce huge floral pictures. In the autumn the skies are filled with colour when the Canberra Balloon Fiesta takes place.

World Heritage-listed Namadgi National Park in the Australian Alps is just 45 minutes from Canberra. You can abseil, mountain bike, fish or bushwalk in the silent wilderness and see kangaroos and wallabies in their natural habitat.
