Our trekking and climbing holidays in Ecuador focus on the famous Avenue of the Volcanoes, an iconic walking route that takes in several prominent Andean peaks, including Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world.

Cotopaxi is a technical peak, requiring basic ice axe and crampon work, and so we include a training course on the day before you trek up the snow fields and glaciers.

Our Avenue of the Volcanoes Trek also allows you to gradually acclimatise for Cotopaxi on the Pichinchas, Illiniza and other mountains. You will have plenty of time in Quito with this programme.

After each trekking day you can relax and enjoy traditional Ecuadorian luxury. We provide accommodation in hotels and lodges, where good food and friendly service is always the norm.

When to climb in Ecuador?
The weather varies from region to region, so it is possible to trek in Ecuador for most of the year. Cotopaxi is best climbed December - January or July - September. Attempts to reach the summit of Cotopaxi are made year-round, but it is best to climb in peak season, both for safety and greater success rates.

How tough is Cotopaxi?
Cotopaxi is almost exactly the same height as Kilimanjaro, but it has a semi-technical summit which makes for an arguably harder climb. Inexperienced climbers should be able to make it to the top of Cotopaxi, but do note the need for basic ice and crampon work during the summit attempt. We include training during the climb.
