Wolwedans Dune Camp

NamibRand Reserve, Namibia

Wolwedans Dune Camp

Wolwedans Dune Camp is one of a collection of small, private camps in the NamibRand Nature Reserve. It offers stylish tented accommodation and a wonderful location at the foot of a 250-metre sand dune.

Part of the Wolwedans family of lodges in the NamibRand Reserve, Wolwedans Dune Camp is an altogether more simple and economic lodge than its sister properties, Wolwedans Dunes Lodge and Boulders Camp. Don’t let that description put you off, however. Dune Camp has a wonderfully rustic feel, a great location, and a very exclusive atmosphere. As with all Wolwedans lodges, it is immaculately serviced and beautifully furnished.

Positioned at the foot of a huge sand dune, surrounded on all sides by the sands of the Namib, the world’s oldest desert, Wolwedans Dune Camp feels as though it occupies its own little pocket of the universe. The views are stunning, and the main public areas—open-air tents on widened decks—have been designed to make the most of them. Meals at Dune Camp are often served outside on the sand dunes, in a less formal atmosphere than at the other Wolwedans lodges.

Activities at Wolwedans Dune Camp centre on guided game walks and drives in the NamibRand Reserve. Full-day activities (with a picnic lunch) are the norm, but you have a great deal of flexibility in how you structure your day. The NamibRand Reserve is not big game territory, but the landscapes are stunning. And so too is the star-gazing, the NamibRand Reserve being the only gold-tier International Dark Sky Reserve in Africa.

Wolwedans Dune Camp is open between March and December.

Accommodation

Wolwedans Dune Camp has just six East African-style safari tents, built above the dunes on wooden platforms. The tents are light and airy, with wide mesh windows and sides that roll up to reveal stunning views. They have large private sitting areas at the front, with space for a roll-out ‘star bed’, allowing you to sleep out under the stars - a wonderful experience in the summer months! Inside, the tents are comfortably furnished with large double or twin beds. The bathrooms are detached from the tents (a few metres separate them), but totally private.

Dining

Delicious meals are served in the open-plan kitchen and dining room, where you can watch as the food is prepared.

Breakfast is a light buffet. Lunch (when not a picnic while on activities) and dinner are served table d'hôte, though the staff are flexible and will accommodate dietary requirements on request.
