Wolwedans Boulders Camp

Wolwedans Boulders Camp

The most recent addition to the Wolwedans family, Wolwedans Boulders Camp is a small, luxury tented lodge situated in a remote region of the NamibRand Reserve, on a rocky outcrop with dramatic views.

Wolwedans Boulders Camp is the latest addition to the Wolwedans family, a collection of high-end lodges situated in the beautiful NamibRand Reserve, southern Namibia. It is positioned some 45 kilometres south of the main Wolwedans lodge, perched on the edge of a massive outcrop of granite rocks, overlooking the vast desert plains of the reserve. A small, private lodge, Boulders is often booked in combination with one of the other Wolwedans lodges.

The main guest area at Boulders Camp is a large, open-air mess tent pitched on a wooden platform, which serves as the lounge and dining room. There’s an open-air breakfast deck and fireplace with stunning views of the surrounding plains. The décor is rather old-fashioned, with a German colonial theme apparent throughout—old lanterns, rich red leather couches, thick rugs and a long wooden dining table set beneath a chandelier.

The NamibRand Reserve is a beautiful region with a varied landscape of sand dunes, savannah plains, low mountains and inselbergs. It’s not Namibia’s premier wildlife destination, but there are good opportunities for spotting various antelope, including zebra, oryx, springbok and kudu, and predators such as leopard and wildcat. It’s the dramatic landscapes that stand out, however, and the varied activities on offer, from guided desert walks and game drives to star-gazing sleep outs and balloon safaris.

Accommodation

Wolwedans Boulders Camp has just four private guest tents, all beautifully appointed with large four-poster beds and dark mahogany furniture. The bathrooms are private but located apart from the tents (just a few steps away). The tents all open onto private verandahs.

Dining

All meals are served in the mess tent or, weather permitting, outside on the open deck. During winter time dinner is normally served earlier, whilst during summer, dinner can be as late as 9pm. Some nights the chef will prepare a barbeque.
