Waterberg Wilderness Lodge

Waterberg Wilderness Lodge is one of our favourite lodges in the region. Converted from an old German farmstead, it has plenty of character as well a wonderfully secluded location in the Waterberg Massif.

Waterberg Wilderness Lodge enjoys a secluded location in the Waterberg Massif, hidden among bamboo trees and surrounded by the towering cliffs of the Waterberg Plateau. A twelve-room guest lodge converted from an old German farmstead, Waterberg Wilderness Lodge has been carefully renovated by the current owners and managers, Caroline and Joachim Rust, into what is one of Namibia's most impressive small hotels.

Waterberg Wilderness Lodge is situated on the old colonial-era farm of Otjosongombe. The farm contains within its boundaries the region's strongest natural spring, which accounts for the lush vegetation in the region immediately surrounding Wilderness Lodge. This in turn attracts a good variety of wildlife. Leopards may be seen near mountain caves, as can buffalo and the rare roan and sable antelope.

Facilities at Waterberg Wilderness Lodge include a breakfast room, swimming pool, dining room and lounge, and a terrace built using local sandstone. With just twelve guest rooms, the lodge maintains a low number of visitors in order to ensure a quiet, relaxing stay.

There’s plenty to keep you occupied while at Waterberg Wilderness Lodge. Sunset walks along the plateau offer dramatic views of the valley below, while guided game drives and walks offer a chance to learn more about the local fauna and flora—while this is not by any means big game territory, there’s much to discover.

Accommodation

Waterberg Wilderness Lodge consists of twelve generously-sized guest chalets scattered across the grounds of the lodge. Each of them has its own private en-suite bathroom, lounge area and roofed verandah or terrace offering views of the Waterberg plateau and cliffs. Two of the rooms are family units.

Meals are served around a shared table in the dining room. Hosts Caroline and Joachim Rust will normally join guests for dinner, though you can dine in private if preferred.
