Overlooking the Mkata plains and mountains in the southwest of Mikumi National Park, Vuma Hills Tented Camp is a comfortable, mid-range permanent camp with a great hillside location. The views from this camp, which is only a few minutes from Mikumi’s main gate, are impressive, but it fails to stand out in other respects, particularly when compared to its sister camp, Stanley’s Kopje.

The facilities at Vuma Hills—dining room, bar, and a swimming pool with a view—are generally good and well-maintained, but the camp has been around for many years and is beginning to look a little tired – we understand it will be renovated in the future, to better capitalise on the great location, but at present there are better options in Mikumi.

Accommodation

The accommodation is in Meru-style tents, raised high on the hill, and comfortably if rather simply furnished. There are sixteen tents, making Vuma Hills large compared to many camps, but the tents are spread out far enough to ensure a reasonable degree of privacy. Every tent has a wooden verandah at the front to make the most of the impressive views, and an en-suite bathroom with shower at the rear. Each tent has two beds, one single and one double, making them suitable for families travelling with children.
