Victoria Angkor Resort

Outwardly a sleek, modern resort, the Victoria Angkor is in fact one of Siem Reap’s oldest hotels, dating back to the 1930s. It offers plush accommodation and great facilities in a central location, just opposite the Royal Park.

Victoria Angkor Resort occupies a terrific location in the centre of Siem Reap, directly overlooking the Royal Park. An old 1930s building, the Victoria has been converted into a stylish, modern hotel, though it retains many of its original features, including such period pieces as a 1930s wrought-iron elevator and two vintage Citroën cars kept permanently stationed in front of the hotel.

The design of Victoria Angkor Resort is impressive. The two-storey main building has been split to allow for a narrow open-air interior courtyard, decorated with attractive water features and frangipani trees, and navigated by wooden staircases and walkways, or a rickety Edwardian-style elevator! This lobby area in turn opens onto a large inner courtyard where the pool, restaurant and bar are found.

The Victoria Angkor Resort is easy to recommend. We love the look of the hotel, and it offers great facilities in a central location. One disadvantage is that it seems to accommodate many large tour groups in peak season. On top of this, some of the public areas, particularly the lobby, are a bit cramped, giving the impression that they’ve tried to cram rather too much into what is an old building (the rooms, thankfully, are more spacious). For these reasons, the Victoria is easier to recommend outside of peak season.

Accommodation

Victoria Angkor Resort has 120 rooms and 10 suites, all beautifully appointed with fine fabrics and decorative Khmer artefacts. All rooms are air-conditioned and have Wi-Fi connections. They enjoy a private balcony view of either the pool/courtyard or the royal gardens.

Dine on local Khmer or wider Asian cuisine in L’Escale restaurant, which offers indoor or outdoor dining on the garden terrace.
