Zanzibar Beach Lodge

Unguja Resort

Unguja Resort is a small, discrete beach lodge situated in Kizimkazi, on the southernmost tip of Zanzibar, an area otherwise known as the Bay of 1,000 Dolphins.

Unguja Resort is a small, upmarket hotel in Kizimkazi, on the southern tip of Zanzibar, where it enjoys a fine location overlooking a thin stretch of beach. It is an area otherwise known as the Bay of 1,000 Dolphins.

Unguja’s guest areas and chalets are set amid attractive gardens, a short distance from the beach. The gardens are a pleasure to explore, full of mango and old baobab trees and home to indigenous wildlife such as the rare red colobus monkey. A nature trail leads down to the beach—a walk of approx. 100m.

There is a large swimming pool with loungers positioned in the middle of the Unguja Resort, while the lounge and bar overlook the ocean. It’s a pleasant set-up. After a relaxing day at the beach spent snorkelling, diving or dolphin-watching, you can put your feet up at the bar with a delicious cocktail and admire the view.

Accommodation

Unguja Resort offers twelve private villas, each with its own terrace and a view of the sea. There are seven standard (sea-view) villas, three baobab suites, and two family units. The baobab suites are larger than the standard rooms and have a private plunge pool. The family units feature two bedrooms and a separate sitting area. All of the villas overlook the ocean.

Unguja’s villas are decorated in traditional Zanzibar style with white-wash walls, coconut wood furniture and intricate carved wooden doors. The villas are spacious and open plan. Some have a private plunge pool. The master bedroom in each has a kingsize bed, mosquito net and fan, and is the only part of the villa that is fully enclosed. The rest is open plan, with a cushioned seating area, open-air shower with hot water, and stairs up to a small traditional Zanzibari bed (which can sleep 2 additional people) on the top deck.

Dining

The menu at Unguja incorporates lots of fresh, local ingredients, from freshly caught seafood to exotic spices. Private barbecue lunches, served on a small island near the coast, can be arranged on request.
