Trapp Family Hotel

Trapp Family Hotel is located just a stone’s throw way from the entrance to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, which covers an area of 4,500 hectares and protects one of the last remaining cloud forests in the Central Americas.

Trapp Family Hotel has been designed in the style of a Swiss mountain lodge, and offers 26 wooden chalets that are well-suited to the cooler climes of Monteverde. This is a good choice of lodge for those travellers who want a tranquil spot from which to explore the surrounding cloud forest, but are not looking for extras such as a swimming pool or spa (which are anyway quite rare in hotels in this region!)

Please note that the Trapp Hotel does not have any heating and it can be cold! We recommend taking suitably warm clothing.

Trapp Family Hotel serves as a gateway to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. The diversity of vegetation in this region is truly amazing, with around 3000 species of plant including epiphytes, colourful bromeliads, flowering vines, dense moss and huge ferns. Almost 500 species of butterfly live here and over 400 species of bird, including more than 30 varieties of hummingbird. Mammals number around 100 and include several varieties of wild cat (margay, puma, ocelot), sloth, deer, howler & capuchin monkeys, and tapirs. Nocturnal walks are a highlight, as the forest comes alive at night.

Trapp Family Hotel offers 20 standard rooms and 6 suites, all housed without wooden chalets. The rooms are ensuite and come with 2 queen size beds, telephone and safe. Standard rooms have full floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the gardens, while the suites have well positioned balconies with views of the forest and mountains.
