Toka Leya Camp

Toka Leya Camp is a lovely mid-range safari camp situated in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, Zambia. It provides a welcome alternative to some of the larger lodges and resorts in and around Livingstone.

Toka Leya Camp enjoys a prime position on the banks of the Zambezi River within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, several kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls. Away from the hustle and bustle of Livingstone, Toka Leya is styled as a traditional safari camp, with classic East African safari tents set on raised wooden platforms overlooking the river. Game-viewing in this region is fairly limited (though you may, with a bit of luck, see white rhino in the park), but Toka Leya is a great option for those who want to experience the various attractions available in the region of Vic Falls, but who aren’t keen on staying in one of the larger, busier lodges closer to Livingstone. It’s also remarkably good value.

The main public areas of Toka Leya Camp are set under the shade of jackal and waterberry trees on the banks of the river. They are simple thatch and canvas structures, and house a lovely open-plan lounge, bar and dining area, built around the trunk of a grand kigelia tree. Other guest areas include a large pool, curio shop, spa treatment room and a cosy campfire on the river bank.

Toka Leya Camp is managed by luxury safari operator Wilderness Safaris. It is the sister property to the more upmarket River Club, which is just a short drive away.

Accommodation

Wooden walkways connect the public areas to twelve guest tents, which are spread out along the banks of the river. These are safari tents, but don’t expect “bush camp” grade accommodation. The tents at Toka Leya are beautiful, with large four-poster beds, polished wooden floors, lounge areas furnished with leather chairs, and private verandahs. En-suite bathrooms feature indoor and outdoor showers.

Three of Toka Leya's rooms are family units. These are largely identical to the standard tents, only they feature an additional, smaller bedroom with twin beds.

Dining

Meals are typically served in the open-air dining area, or outdoors on the decks overlooking the river. Private dining is also available on request. Kids are likely to enjoy the fresh pizzas prepared in a wood-fired oven!
