Tembo House Hotel

Tembo House Hotel is a Stone Town landmark. An old converted Swahili home with a long history, Tembo once served as the American consulate's residence on Zanzibar. Today it is one of Zanzibar's best guesthouses.

A Stone Town landmark, Tembo House Hotel is situated on the harbour front overlooking the ocean, right in the heart of the old town. An old converted Swahili house, Tembo Hotel has a rich past, serving as the residence of the American consulate on Zanzibar in the early 19th century, and later as the home of an influential trading company. The main building, in traditional Zanzibari ‘white wash’ style, has been tastefully converted into an attractive Stone Town hotel without losing any of its original charm.

Tembo House has a small courtyard swimming pool, ideal for cooling off after a visit to the busy town centre. The en-suite rooms are furnished with Zanzibari-style furniture and are all air-conditioned.

Please note that Tembo is a dry hotel, though there are bars serving alcohol a few steps from Tembo's entrance.
