Situated in a private conservancy to the north of the main Masai Mara Game Reserve, Speke’s Camp is a charming, low-key bush camp offering excellent value and an escape from the crowds.

Those valuing peace and privacy will find Speke’s Camp ideal. Tucked away in a copse of trees on the edge of the Olare Orok River, the camp is barely visible until you’re in it!

The location of Speke’s Camp, on the edge of the Mara North conservancy, has pros and cons. On the one hand, Speke’s Camp is some distance from the Mara River and the main migratory routes, and so not ideal during the migration season; on the other hand, Speke’s secluded location allows for access to a number of less-visited game-viewing spots (Musiara Swamp, Talek River, Rhino Ridge), where great game-viewing can be had year-round.

Moreover, thanks to its remote location on a private conservancy, Speke’s Camp offers a fuller range of activities than many other camps in the Masai Mara, including night drives and walking safaris. A particular highlight are the mobile fly-camping safaris, which will see you spend up to 5 days in the bush accompanied by Masai askari, following a trail that connects Speke’s Camp to sister camp Jan’s. An extended walk into the Great Rift Valley and to Lake Natron can also be arranged.

Privately-owned and Masai-hosted, Speke’s Camp stands out as one of the most affordable camps in the Masai Mara, offering very modest rates for a camp of this quality.
