Rusinga Island Lodge

Rusinga Island Lodge is a remote island retreat on Lake Victoria. A lovely spot to relax after a hot safari, Rusinga offers a great alternative to a stay at one of Kenya's busier coastal resorts.

Rusinga Island Lodge is a charming private island retreat on Lake Victoria, Kenya. It's a place to relax, not to view game, its chilled vibe and lovely facilities a welcome respite after a hot, dusty safari in the Masai Mara. Many will mourn the lack of a proper beach, but for those looking to escape the crowds of Kenya's more prominent coastal resorts, a few nights on Rusinga Island can be a very convenient alternative to a stay at a beach lodge. Guests here can also take advantage of the unique activities available on Lake Victoria, which include excellent fishing.

Rusinga is a small lodge, with just seven cottages, but it enjoys a large area of this sparsely populated island more or less exclusively. The grounds of the lodge extend to the water's edge, providing guests with plenty of space. Far from the crowds, you can enjoy a level of privacy here that simply isn't available on Kenya's coast, or at least not for the same price.

Those looking for a private island lodge on Lake Victoria might also consider Mfangano Island Lodge. Even smaller than Rusinga, this six-bedroom lodge enjoys an exclusive location on the island of Mfangano.
