Rocktail Bay Lodge

iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa

Rocktail Bay Lodge

Rocktail Bay Lodge is situated in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site in KwaZulu-Natal, and enjoys privileged access to the Maputaland Marine Reserve.

Rocktail Bay Lodge is situated in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (formerly Greater St. Lucia), a World Heritage Site in KwaZulu-Natal. It is one of South Africa's most remote wilderness lodges, set in a region of great natural beauty.

Located just off shore of Rocktail Bay is the Maputaland Marine Reserve, a marine sanctuary that houses all manner of marine life, including whales and dolphins. The diving and snorkelling in Maputaland is some of the best in South Africa.

While the marine life is arguably the main attraction, on land this lush area has a huge variety of animal, bird and plant life to discover. The marshes, grasslands and forest that make up the iSimangaliso Wetland Park are home to red duiker and common reedbuck, while its freshwater lakes are filled with hippo and Nile crocodiles. The birdlife is equally spectacular, with a range of rarities, from malkoha to turaco, accounted for. Water birds, including the rufous-bellied heron, are also often sighted.

Rocktail Bay is tucked away within the forested dunes that occur along Maputaland's coastline, just metres from the warm Indian Ocean. With nearly 40kms of pristine coastline, Rocktail Bay Lodge offers perhaps the most exclusive beach experience in South Africa.
