Pristine Lotus Spa and Resort

Inle Lake, Myanmar

Pristine Lotus Spa and Resort

Situated on the western shores of Inle Lake, not far from the town of Nyaung Shwe, Pristine Lotus Spa and Resort is one of the larger hotels in the region, and one of the few with a pool and spa.

Pristine Lotus Spa and Resort is one of the most substantial hotels on Inle Lake. It is situated on the eastern edge of the lake, and offers accommodation in beautifully-appointed double-storey villas. With over 100 rooms it feels more like a resort than a lodge and offers all of the facilities you would expect from a property of this size, including a gorgeous spa with hot springs. Despite this, it doesn’t feel crowded. Indeed, as it is spread out across extensive grounds, Pristine Lotus manages to feel less confined than many of the lodges located above the lake waters.

Unlike most of the properties in the Inle area, Pristine Lotus is located on the western side of the lake (which sadly means you don’t get a view of the sunset over the lake each evening). It feels a little less remote than other lodges, as it is located just off the road and within easy reach of the town of Nyaung Shwe. This can be an advantage and a disadvantage—many enjoy the experience of sleeping directly above the lake in traditional stilted bungalows, as offered at lodges such as Myanmar Treasure and Golden Island Cottages, but Pristine Lotus offers much more space than these lodges, not to mention attractive gardens where you can stretch your legs! And if you value your amenities, it’s the best equipped lodge on the lake, with a swimming pool (which was still being constructed during our last visit in 2014) and a fantastic spa.

Accommodation

Surrounded by gently sloping manicured gardens, Pristine Lotus’ two-storey villas are very comfortably furnished, and offer such lovely views over the lake.

There are fifty two-storey villas in total, all with separate living and sleeping areas, private terraces and balconies, teak floors, and locally-made furniture and textiles. Amenities include air conditioning, heating, satellite TV, in-room safe and tea and coffee making facilities. You won’t find larger or more comfortable rooms anywhere else on Inle Lake.

In addition to the double storey villas, there are seventy newer single-storey villas, built away from the older villas and situated closer to the lake. These are a very recent addition to Pristine Lotus, and were still being constructed during our last visit to the hotel in early 2014. From what we’ve seen, they are furnished to the same high standards as the villas, only they are slightly smaller. Do ask if you’d like to see some pictures of the newer villas taken by our staff.

Dining

Pristine Lotus’s restaurant is housed in a rather elaborate building, constructed in the local fashion with teakwood floors and high ceilings, and raised on a high platform overlooking the gardens. The menu is pan-Asian with a selection of European dishes.
