Onguma Bush Camp

Onguma Reserve, Etosha National Park

Onguma Bush Camp

Part of the Onguma family of safari lodges and camps, Onguma Bush Camp is a small, family-friendly lodge situated in the private Onguma Game Reserve, just east of Etosha National Park.

Part of the Onguma family of safari lodges and camps, Onguma Bush Camp is situated on a private reserve east of Etosha National Park, where it borders Fischer's Pan.

Despite the name, Onguma Bush Camp is more a lodge than it is a traditional bush camp. The fully-fenced property sits within manicured gardens overlooking a large watering hole in the Onguma Game Reserve. The rooms are smart, spacious and fully air-conditioned. Guest facilities at the camp, which was refurbished in 2012, include swimming pool, games room, thatched lounge and bar.

Game-viewing from Onguma is excellent. Guests at the Bush Camp have the option of shared 4x4 game drives in Etosha National Park as well as game-viewing activities within the Onguma Reserve itself, where the game is more limited than in Etosha but the available activities more varied (night drives, rhino tracking). Nearby Fischer’s Pan is famous for its flamingo flocks, and Onguma Reserve is notable for its black rhino sightings.

Accommodation

Onguma Bush Camp offers 16 rooms, of which eight are twins/doubles, three loft rooms (with children’s sleeping area), three rondavels (offering extra space), one family suite, and one honeymoon suite.

The rooms differ in size and layout, but share the same basic facilities, including outdoor sitting area, air-conditioning, and en-suite facilities. The rondavel rooms offer more space while the higher category suites feature a private lounge area.

A handful of the rooms are situated apart from the main camp and outside the fenced area. These enjoy a view of the watering hole and surrounding bush, where plains game and occasionally predators can be seen – ideal for those wanting the best game-viewing opportunities; less so for families with children.

Dining

Breakfast at Onguma is cooked to order and accompanied by a light buffet. Lunch is often taken as a picnic but a selection of dishes are provided in camp. Dinner is a three-course set menu.
