Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge enjoys a stunning view of Ngorongoro Crater from its perch on the rim of the great caldera. A large, resort-style hotel, it boasts facilities that other hotels in the area lack.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge perches on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater, from where it enjoys a stunning view of the crater plains below. The lodge is itself an impressive sight, consisting of a large glass-roofed central dome surrounded by thatched rondavels. However, it's the view of the crater that makes Ngorongoro Sopa stand out above other hotels and lodges in the region—that and its size.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is a large resort-style hotel with almost 100 rooms. The sheer size of Sopa makes it hard to recommend without reservation, despite its great location, good facilities and affordable rates. In this respect it is similar to the slightly smaller and somewhat more upmarket Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, which also boasts a stunning location but like Ngorongoro Sopa can feel a bit like a holiday resort. Catering primarily to group tours and families, both resorts offer very good and efficient, albeit impersonal, service.

Facilities at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge include a large swimming pool, restaurant with a view, bar and lounge. The pool, along with Sopa's size and easy atmosphere, make it popular with families.

There are 91 well-appointed double rooms, all with two queen size beds, separate dressing area, and a glass fronted verandah.

There are in addition six single rooms.

The restaurant area serves a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Afternoon tea can be taken in the coffee bar or outside. Early dinner can be arranged for children and the staff will always cater for special diets if advised in advance.

There is also a cosy bar with a log fire and comfy armchairs, where you can relax and enjoy a drink at any time of day.
