Ngong House

Ngong House is an unusual "tree house lodge" in the Karen/Langata area of Nairobi. Private and luxurious, families with children will simply love the unique tree house rooms!

Ngong House is among the most unique places to stay in the Kenyan capital. Located in the Karen area of Nairobi, it occupies four hectares of private land overlooking the Ngong Hills, a short walk away from Karen Blixen's former coffee plantation, and approx 30 minutes from the city centre. It's a peaceful area, and the perfect setting for Ngong House's unique tree house accommodation.

You didn't misread, accommodation at Ngong House is in tree houses, of which there are six, scattered widely around the lodge gardens (there's also a private cottage and log cabin, as described below)! These unique rooms are just lovely, and give Ngong House its very individual character. There's nothing else quite like Ngong in Nairobi. Located some distance from the city centre, and surrounded by lush gardens, it's the definition of a city retreat, totally removed from the hustle and bustle around it.

Accommodation

Ngong House's standout feature is its six luxurious tree-houses, each of which has been designed by the owner and designer of the lodge, Paul Verleysen. All are spacious and raised high from the ground with views of the Ngong Hills and the surrounding bush. The interiors differ in layout and decor, but follow the same basic format. They are raised about five metres from the ground, and built on two levels with upstairs bedrooms and downstairs lounge/living area, as well as a large bathroom complete with a wooden bath carved in the shape of a dhow boat! The rooms are wonderfully rustic, with roughly carved wooden furnishings and bright fabrics.

In addition to the tree houses, Ngong House has a private suite facing the swimming pool and a log cabin which is perfect for families (sleeps up to six people).

Dining

The dining experience at Ngong House is as special as the accommodation. Breakfast and lunch are served in the garden under a canopy of acacia trees while dinner is served in a half open thatched rondavel with a grand fireplace, or in another secluded area of the lodge. Pre-dinner drinks are served around the campfire in the company of other guests and the Ngong's host.

Activities

A range of activities in and around Nairobi – the staff at Ngong House will be happy to help you plan daytrips.

Child Policy

Children are welcome. However due to the steps and the height of the tree houses, we would only recommend the log cabin for families with small children. Older children, on the other hand, will likely love the unique accommodation on offer at Ngong House.
