Muchenje Safari Lodge

Chobe National Park, Botswana

Muchenje Safari Lodge

Muchenje Safari Lodge is one of Chobe's most relaxed lodges. It sits in the quiet western region of the Park, away from the crowds of Kasaba, and accommodates only a small number of guests in its 20 chalets.

Muchenje Safari Lodge is situated on the remote western side of Chobe National Park, perched high on an escarpment overlooking the Chobe River and floodplains. It is among the only lodges in the west of the Park, a region which attracts far fewer visitors than the more familiar Kasane region. This remoteness gives Muchenje a very different character to other Chobe lodges—it's quiet and hospitable whereas the Park as a whole is known for its crowds.

Muchenje is privately owned and run, and accommodates approx. 20 guests in comfortable tented chalets overlooking the river. It is not the smallest lodge in Chobe National Park, but with its well-spaced rooms and wonderfully remote location, it has a very intimate feel. The main lodge is a lovely spot to relax, incorporating dining room, bar, viewing deck and swimming pool. The atmosphere at Muchenje is informal. This is not a top-end safari lodge, but it's a great camp from which to enjoy a relaxing safari away from the crowds.

Muchenje is easy to access; a 40 minute drive from Kasane and two hours from Livingstone/Victoria Falls.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Muchenje is in comfortable chalets rather than tents. These are fairly sturdy units, constructed of stone and thatch, and positioned near the top of the escarpment to get the best of the views. Each room has a private viewing deck, and an en-suite bathroom with shower and flush loo.

There's one family unit, built on two floors and accommodating up to four people in one double and two single beds.

Muchenje's chalets have mains electricity and hot running water.

Dining

Meals at Muchenje are enjoyed communally at the shared dining table (private dinners on your room deck are also an option), followed by drinks around the fire pit.

Child Policy

Muchenje Safari Lodge accepts children over the age of eight. There's a family unit accommodating up to four.

Muchenje's relaxed atmosphere makes it a great choice of safari camp for families travelling with older children, though do keep in mind that the camp is largely unfenced.
