Muchenje Safari Lodge

Owner-run Muchenje Safari Lodge is one of Chobe's most relaxed lodges. It sits in the comparatively quiet western region of the Park, approx. 45 minutes from Kasane, and accommodates only a small number of guests in its 11 chalets.

Muchenje Safari Lodge is situated in the Chobe Forest Reserve, in the western reaches of Chobe National Park, where it perches high on an escarpment overlooking the Chobe River and its floodplains, enjoying a window onto what is one of Africa’s prime game-viewing areas.

Muchenje is privately owned and run, and accommodates a small number of guests in its 11 comfortable tented chalets, all of which overlook the river. It is not the smallest lodge in Chobe National Park, but with its well-spaced rooms and remote location, it has a very intimate feel. The main lodge is an inviting venue in which to relax between game activities, incorporating the dining room, bar, viewing deck and swimming pool.

Muchenje is easy to access; a 45 minute drive from Kasane and two hours from Livingstone/Victoria Falls.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Muchenje is in comfortable chalets rather than tents. These are fairly sturdy units, constructed of stone and thatch, and positioned near the top of the escarpment to better enjoy the views. Each room has a private viewing deck, and an en-suite bathroom with shower and flush loo.

There's one family unit, built on two floors and accommodating up to four people in one double and two single beds, and ten standard units.

Muchenje's chalets have mains electricity and hot running water.

Dining

Meals at Muchenje are enjoyed communally at the shared dining table (private dinners on your room deck are also an option), followed by drinks around the fire pit.

Child Policy

Muchenje Safari Lodge accepts children over the age of eight. There's a family unit accommodating up to four.

Muchenje's relaxed atmosphere makes it a great choice of safari lodge for families travelling with older children, though do keep in mind that the camp is largely unfenced.
