Moonlight Hotel

Moonlight Hotel enjoys a great location on Pham Ngu Lao St., right in the centre of Hue, with wonderful views of the Perfume River from its top-floor bar and restaurant.

The Moonlight Hotel is a 4-star city hotel situated on Pham Ngu Lao St., right in the heart of downtown Hue. It had just opened when we first visited in early 2014, and while some areas, such as the top-floor swimming pool, where still being developed, what we saw of the Moonlight Hotel impressed us. The standard rooms were spacious and generously furnished. The facilities at the Moonlight Hotel are also very good—with a top-floor pool (now opened), gym and spa. The views of the Perfume River and city skyline are impressive, particularly from the top-floor restaurant and bar.

The Moonlight Hotel’s position in downtown Hue, in what is sometimes referred to as the backpacker’s quarter on account of the many lively bars and cheerful restaurants, works well for those who want to explore the town at leisure—the shops, restaurants and Dong Ba Market are all within walking distance. Hue’s main sights, on the other hand, tend to be located on the outskirts of town, and not in the centre.

The Moonlight Hotel's location does, however, mean that you can expect a bit of noise in the evenings if staying in one of the rooms on the lower floors. This isn’t generally a problem in the upper floor rooms, but worth keeping in mind if you’re a light sleeper.

Accommodation

Moonlight Hotel offers 90 rooms and suites with all the expected modern conveniences, including air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a minibar and telephone. En-suite bathrooms include hot/cold shower facilities or a bath and hairdryer. There’s a selection of room categories—the amenities and décor are largely identical across the rooms, only the size and position differs.

The higher-category rooms on the upper floors have larger bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers. They also suffer less from noise (see above).

Dining

The restaurant on the top floor serves a very good buffet breakfast. Evening meals offer a choice of Vietnamese and international cuisine. Private dining can also be arranged on request. The Lunar Bar on the top floor is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail.
