Mawamba Lodge

Mawamba Lodge

Mawamba Lodge sits in 15 acres of lush rainforest, between the Tortuguero Canal and the Caribbean Sea. The lodge is a short stroll from the beach and horse-riding along the coast is just one highlight of a stay here.

Mawamba is a small, rustic lodge that is perfect for nature enthusiasts, who will love exploring the butterfly, frog and iguana gardens located in the lodge grounds! Guided excursions on foot and by boat will reveal a host of wildlife species, such as caiman, red-eyed frogs, bats, sloths, and iguanas, as well as over 350 species of birds and myriad butterflies. Between July and October, it’s possible to join a night tour to see the endangered green turtles on the beach. Fishing can also be arranged from Mawamba Lodge.

Between activities, Mawamba serves as a tranquil retreat, with a small swimming pool and sitting areas dotted around the gardens. The lovely Katonga Floating Restaurant (a restored barge) provides lunch and dinner while cruising along the waterways.
