Mapula Lodge

The intimate Mapula Lodge is situated on a small tree island in Mapula concession, from where it overlooks a permanent lagoon and a seasonal floodplain of the Okavango.

The very remote, very intimate Mapula Lodge is situated in Mapula concession, a private reserve of 12,000ha in the northwest Okavango Delta, close to Moremi Game Reserve. The lodge is a 45min flight from Maun and has its own airstrip located a short distance from the camp grounds.

Mapula Lodge is situated on a small tree island overlooking a permanent lagoon and seasonal floodplains. It’s a generally good spot for game viewing, attracting a diverse range of wildlife, alongside a resident pod of hippo! Unusually for this region, the Mapula concession is partly fenced off from the rest of the Okavango Delta, limiting migration of game in and out. However it still attracts a good variety of wildlife (including wild dog), much of it permanently resident.

The camp itself is a rustic, unpretentious thatch construct. It is open plan with a large lounge, dining area, and comfortable viewing decks overlooking the lagoon.

There are 9 rooms at Mapula—7 twins, 1 double, and 1 family—each built on stilts and with a private deck overlooking the lagoon.

Mapula's rooms are clean and comfortable, with attractive en-suite bathrooms complete with open-air shower and traditional zinc bath tub, and generous lounge areas.

Child Policy

Mapula Lodge accepts children over the age of eight (younger children on special request, and typically only during low season). There are restrictions on game activities for children; for safety reasons, those under the age of twelve cannot join mokoro safaris, and those under the age of sixteen cannot take part in walking safaris.

Mapula Lodge is not obvious choice for families with young children, due to its remote location and quiet atmosphere.
