Madikwe Hills

Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa

Madikwe Hills

Madikwe Hills is a stylish, high-end safari lodge located in the heart of the Madikwe Game Reserve, a little visited game park notable for its populations of black rhino and wild dog.

Madikwe Hills is an upmarket safari lodge located in the Madikwe Game Reserve, an often-overlooked game park in South Africa's North West region.

Madikwe Reserve covers an area of almost 200,000 acres, and is home to such rarities as rhino and wild dog. The Groot Marico, or Madikwe, River flows through the heart of the reserve, and it is on its banks, under the shade of ancient Marula trees, that Madikwe Hills is found, its glass-fronted suites nestled among the rocks and the trees at the river's edge. It's a fine location, right in the heart of the reserve. Raised wooden walkways link the main areas with the private cottages and offer wonderful views of the plains below where black rhino roam freely amongst the ‘Big 5’.

Madikwe Hills is a relatively small, intimate camp, consisting of a Main Lodge with ten suites and a private camp, Little Madikwe Hills, with just two suites, designed for small groups or those couples seeking a little extra privacy. It accommodates twenty-four guests in total.

Accommodation

Madikwe Hills is very much a luxury lodge, not a bush camp. Its ten glass suites feature such luxuries as underfloor heating, fireplaces and air-conditioning. They are spacious and attractively furnished. The rooms have private decks and feature indoor and outdoor showers. Each room has been built among the boulders so as to ensure privacy.

There is also a small private camp with two rooms, accommodating up to eight, and ideal for honeymooners, small groups or families.

Dining

Fine meals are served in the rather formal dining room, accompanied by local and international wines from the wine cellar. More relaxed bush are sometimes served in the boma around a cosy fire.
