Perched high on Royal Hill, with commanding views over the old city centre, Lokanga is a wonderful retreat within the heart of the Madagascan capital. This original 1930s Malagasy townhouse is furnished throughout with antiques and family souvenirs, inviting you to journey back to an era past.
Maintained by the descendants of its original owners, Lokanga was refurbished and re-opened as a boutique hotel in 2011, and has since become one of our favourite places to stay in Antananarivo. More characterful than most of Antananarivo's hotels, and with a conveniently central location, Lokanga is a perfect retreat for a short stay in the Madagascan capital. In the evening, the view of the city lights from the balcony is stunning!
Accommodation
Lokanga Boutique Hotel offers just six en-suite bedrooms, all individually styled and decorated with family antiques and the expected modern comforts: WiFi, minibar, winter heating, and satellite television.
Each of Lokanga’s rooms has been furnished with a different era of Madagascan history in mind, from the English colonial room, recalling the English missionaries who once lived on the very same hill, to the West Indies Room, whose bright saffron colours, cast-iron furnishings and Indian artwork recall the era of the spice trade.
Dining
Breakfast is a light buffet, served on the balcony overlooking Antananarivo when the weather permits. The dinner menu features a mix of Malagasy and international cuisine, accompanied by a good wine selection and homemade cakes, served in the intimate dining room.
