Little Vumbura

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Little Vumbura

This highly intimate camp is sitauted in the remote north of the Okanvango Delta, in a game-rich private reserve which it shares exclusively with its sister camp, Vumbura Plains.

Small, remote, and highly intimate, Little Vumbura is one of the Okavango Delta's most exclusive camps. It occupies a private concession in the far north of the Delta, which it shares with its larger sibling, Vumbura Plains Camp. Here, away from the crowds, it offers excellent land and water-based safaris in a region of the Delta that teems with game but not with visitors. Access is by light aircraft only followed by a boat journey to the long jetty that connects to the camp.

The Vumbura camps are operated by Wilderness Safaris, who have acquired a great reputation for their stylish but unfussy bush camps, where the emphasis is on top game-viewing as well as luxury pampering. Little Vumbura, in short, is more than just a plush safari lodge. The game-viewing in this region of the Delta is simply superb, with sightings of wild dog, leopard, cheetah and lion common if not regular.

In keeping with the template adopted by many of Wilderness Safaris' other private camps, Little Vumbura is the low-key alternative to its larger and somewhat more luxurious sister camp, Vumbura Plains. This isn't a lavish camp. Indeed, it's very much a bush camp, which emphasises comfortable accommodation rather than on glitz and glamour. Many will appreciate its unassuming character, tranquil atmosphere, and stylish blend of natural furnishings and more modern decor, which we prefer to the "colonial" aesthetic adopted by some many safari camps in Botswana. Little Vumbura also offers good facilities in addition to its fine location, including a plunge pool, extended jetty, viewing deck, and lovely open-air lounge and bar. Its small size – just six tents – ensures an intimate safari.

Accommodation

There are six tents in total, including one family tent which accommodates 4 people and one honeymoon suite with king size bed. Smaller than those at Vumbura Plains, the tents at Little Vumbura are nevertheless bright and cosy. Each has an en-suite bathroom with indoor shower, and is raised on a wooden platform which looks out onto the surrounding floodplains. Wooden walkways connect the tents to the main lounge/dining area.

Dining

Little Vumbura's open-air dining area and bar are on raised on wooden decking and shaded under canvas. Meals are typically served around the communal dining table, with private dining on request. A large brunch follows the morning game activities. For dinner, a small variety of dishes are usually offered buffet-style.

All drinks are included with the exception of premium brands and champagne.
