Little Kulala

Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia

Little Kulala

Little Kulala is the flagship camp in the Kulala portfolio, a collection of three camps set within their own private reserve on the edge of the Namib-Naukluft National Park, from where they enjoy easy access to Sossusvlei.

Little Kulala is situated on the 90,000 acre private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, a short drive from Sesriem and the region's standout attraction, Sossusvlei. Indeed, Little Kulala, along with its sister camps Kulala Desert Lodge and Kulala Tented Camp, is among the only properties in the area with private access to Sossusvlei.

Little Kulala is undoubtedly the best camp in the region. It is the flagship camp in the Kulala family, smaller and more luxurious than its sister camps, and it offers the best access to Sossusvlei of any camp, with its own private gate leading directly into the Namib-Naukluft Reserve.

Even without its great location and proximity to Sossusvlei, Little Kulala would stand out as a stylish desert retreat. Its climate controlled guest chalets, or 'kulalas', are beautifully designed, while the lodge's multi-level central lounge and dining area is furnished in a contemporary style—sitting in the tea room, with its super-modern decor, it's easy to forget that you're right in the middle of the Namib Desert! There's nothing else quite like Little Kulala, its blending of the rustic and modern setting it apart from other camps in the area, including its sister camps.

Accommodation

There are just 11 thatched villas, set at some distance from each other on the open desert plains. Light and airy, and decorated in neutral colours, the glass-sided villas emphasise the soft, pale tones of the desert. Inside they are furnished in a very contemporary style, with white wooden tables, wicker chairs, and cream-coloured lounge furniture. The villas are hugely spacious, each with its own viewing deck with plunge pool (sheltered by a bamboo fence), sala, and separate rooftop terrace with skybed. En-suite bathrooms feature both indoor and outdoor showers.

Dining

Meals are typically taken outdoors on Little Kulala's main deck. In the winter months, however, meals are taken in the firelit dining room. There's also a underground wine cellar, which provides a wonderfully romantic setting for a private dinner for two.
