Kicheche Bush Camp

Kicheche Bush Camp is one of the smallest camps in the Kicheche portfolio of luxury safari camps. It's a classic bush camp with a great location in a private conservancy of the Masai Mara.

Kicheche Bush Camp is a gorgeous luxury tented camp located in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, part of the greater Masai Mara. It's a classic bush camp, totally unfenced and situated in a region of great natural beauty. The Olare Motorogi Conservancy imposes strict limits on the number of beds within its boundaries meaning that guests at Kicheche can enjoy a wonderful safari in the heart of the Mara but still avoid the crowds. The location also catches part of the great wildebeest migration, though there are camps within the Mara that are better placed for seeing the migration.

Kicheche Bush Camp doesn't boast a huge array of facilities – just six tents centred on a communal dining tent – but it's beautifully furnished and, like all of the Kicheche Camps, very well-managed. The guides here are superb, and the game-viewing experience, away from the crowds of the Mara Reserve, is just fantastic. The camp is part-owned by wildlife photographer Paul Goldstein, and attracts many keen wildlife photographers, who can take inspiration from some of the fantastic photos on display at the camp!

The Kicheche Camps are among the best value luxury camps in Kenya.

Access to Kicheche Bush Camp is via the Ol Kiombo airstrip, from which it is a short one hour drive to the camp.

Accommodation

Just six tents, spread out so as to ensure every guest a good level of privacy. The tents at Kicheche Bush Camp are huge, their interiors divided into separate 'rooms' by canvas walls, including a lounge, dressing area, bathroom and bedroom. They are not dark and cramped like some safari tents, but rather have been designed to let in as much light as possible—the canvas flaps can be lifted during the day to create an open, airy space. Potted plants decorate the interiors of the tents, in what is a lovely touch. The tents are generously furnished, with ample storage space in the form of luggage racks and cupboards. The bathrooms have a single wash basin, flush loo, and shower (it's a safari bucket shower, but with hot water available on demand). The verandahs are furnished with comfy chairs overlooking the plains.

Dining

Meals are served communally in the dining room, with the camp hosts accompanying guests. Bush meals are also offered, with breakfast typically served out in the bush during morning game activities.

Activities

Morning and evening game drives in small four-seater vehicles
Walking trips
Balloon safari (at additional cost)

Most game activities at Kicheche Bush Camp take place within the conservancy, where it is possible to participate in activities such as night drives and walks not possible in the Mara Reserve. Those on longer stays at Kicheche also have the option of a full-day game drive into the Reserve itself. A full-day really is required due to length of the drive.

Child Policy

Children are accepted but parents must be aware that the camp is unfenced. No baby equipment is provided.
