Khwai Leadwood Under Thatch

Opened in March 2017, Khwai Leadwood Under Thatch is the latest addition to the African Bush Camps portfolio, a collection of midscale safari camps which aim to provide access to some of the best game-viewing spots in Botswana and Zimbabwe at comparatiely modest rates.

Khwai Leadwood Under Thatch is positioned on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, within easy reach of Moremi Game Reserve.

In keeping with its sister camp, Khwai Leadwood is low-key and informal. It offers just six tented chalets (four of them standard double rooms and the other two family units), positioned beneath a copse of leadwood and sycamore fig trees on the edge of the Khwai River. The thatched chalets are spacious and feature gauze sliding doors so as to allow in lots of light. Each opens onto a private verandah overlooking the river. The en-suite bathrooms have large showers, double basins, and hot & cold running water.

Khwai Leadwood's central guest areas are built on raised wooden decking. The lounge is open at the front so as to make the most of the views. Separate to the lounge is a cosy lantern-lit dining room with shared dining table, though meals are just as often taken outdoors on the deck.

Activities

Game drives in the Khwai Community Concession and Moremi Game Reserve
Night drives on the Khwai Concession
Guided bush walks
Mokoro safaris (seasonal)

Game-viewing at Khwai Leadwood is primarily land-based, though mokoro safaris are offered when water levels permit (May to Oct, when floodwaters are high).

Child Policy

Khwai Leadwood has two family units with inter-connecting rooms. Children of all ages are accommodated, though some activities (mokoro safaris, bush walks) are age-restricted.
