Kaza Safari Lodge

Caprivi Strip, Namibia

Kaza Safari Lodge

Kaza Safari Lodge (formerly Impalila Island Lodge) is an old fishing lodge situated at the very edge of Namibia's Caprivi Strip, where the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers meet.

Kaza Safari Lodge (formerly Impalila Island Lodge) is a stylish, mid-range safari lodge situated at the end of Namibia's Caprivi Strip, close to the border with Botswana and Zambia. Though a fairly simple lodge - particularly compared to its sister lodge Ntwala Island - it has the advantage of an excellent location on Impalila Island, where the Zambezi River meets the Chobe. This is the very tip of Namibia, approaching the Victoria Falls in Zambia. The surrounding wilderness is a mosaic of floodplains, bushveld and waterways, which are host to exceptional birdlife, assorted game and diverse vegetation, while the waters around Impalila offer excellent fishing opportunities (Kaza Safari Lodge was originally a fishing lodge).

Game-viewing at Kaza is mostly water-based, with an emphasis on quiet boating safaris along the Chobe River, as well as walking safaris on the island itself. Kaza is located right on the border of Botswana's Chobe National Park, and game activities tend to focus on the Chobe River.

Accommodation

Kaza offers just eight cosy en-suite chalets, constructed of wood and thatch and set among the trees on the river bank. Each has a private verandah at the front overlooking the rapids.

The rooms connect to the main lodge building by sandy pathways, and are spaced far apart enough to ensure a good level of privacy.

Kaza's main building is, like the chalets, a wood and thatch structure, built beneath giant baobab trees. It houses a comfy lounge, bar and dining area, and leads onto a swimming pool with loungers.

Dining

Dining is typically served al fresco on the decks, under a baobab canopy, or privately on your own private verandah. Romantic dinners for two on the river sandbank are also offered. The bar is well-stocked with spirits and South African wines.
