Kaya Mawa

Likoma, Lake Malawi

Kaya Mawa

Kaya Mawa occupies a fabulous location on the tiny island of Likoma, Lake Malawi. One of only a handful of lodges on Likoma, it enjoys direct access to a long stretch of private beach from its private perch on the southern tip of the island.

Kaya Mawa is a laidback beach retreat accommodating only a limited number of guests in its 11 individually-designed guest rooms. Built entirely by hand, the main lodge areas - thatch-roofed bar, open-air lounge & dining area, rock pool - are tucked away in a rocky outcrop, from where they enjoy fabulous views of the clear lake waters.

Access to Kaya Mawa is by light aircraft from Lilongwe.

Accommodation

Kaya Mawa's 11 guest rooms have all been individually designed and named, and differ in style and furnishings.

3 standard rooms - Khuyu, Mbungu & Msekwa - enjoy king-size beds, full en-suite facilities, and private outdoor decks overlooking the beach.

4 premium suites - Nhkwazi, Mbamba, Makengulu & Ngani - offer additional space and a private plunge pool, and in the case of the honeymoon suite (Makengulu), a fabulously intimate location on a private islet some 100m from the lodge.

In addition to the standard rooms and suites are four houses - three serving as family units with two bedrooms each (Yofu, Ulissa, Mainja), and a one-bedroomed honeymoon suite (Madimba), situated at the far end of the beach with private mezzanine and plunge pool.

In 2011, Kaya Mawa expanded to include a private four-bedroom villa (Ndomo), accessible from the lodge via a short boat ride. Fully self-contained, Ndomo House has 4 bedrooms (3 of them en-suite), sitting area, pool and its own staff.

Dining

Kaya Mawa has a lovely open-air bar and dining area situated right on beach.

Breakfast is a light breakfast with a cooked full-English breakfast available to order. Lunch and dinner are fixed menus. The cuisine is varied at Kaya Mawa and dietary requirements will always be catered for with advance notice.

Private dinners - served on the beach or on your private deck - are offered.
