Kanana Camp

Kanana is an intimate eight-room camp located in a private concession of the Okavango. Set in a mixed environment of forest and floodplains, Kanana Camp allows for a variety of water and land-based activities.

Kanana Camp is a beautiful retreat set on the edge of the Xudum River, in the south-western Okavango Delta, where it nestles beneath a canopy of tall ebony and kigelia trees. The surrounding wilderness is a mix of forest and seasonal floodplains, as well as the lagoons and channels that one associates with the Delta. This varied environment ensures a rich and diverse game-viewing experience, also helped by Kanana's location in a private concession, which allows for a greater variety of game activities (night drives, for instance, are offered here, as well as guided walking safaris and boat safaris throughout the year).

The open-air lounge and dining area at Kanana is a unique structure, built on raised wooden decks that have been woven around a fig tree. It's divided into separate sections - a lounge, bar, and dining area furnished with a long communal dining table. It has a very cosy atmosphere. Outside, close to the water's edge, is a fire pit, which directly overlooks the floodplains. There is also a large deck with a generously-sized swimming pool.

Accommodation

Kanana offers eight spacious, twin-bedded safari units, set on raised teak decks, and overlooking the waterway. All tents have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, showers and flush toilets. The tents are well spaced to provide a good level of privacy, while still being within comfortable walking distance of the central area.

Dining

The spacious central area has been built around the trunk of an ancient fig tree. Relax in the lounge with a drink then enjoy dining with your fellow guests at the communal dining table. Three-course dinners are served each evening and substantial breakfasts each morning before or after game activities.

Activities

Guided walking safaris with armed guides, boat safaris (both mokoro and powerboat), and day and night game drives are all offered at Kanana. The activities open to you during your stay will depend on the water levels. There's an emphasis on water activities between May and November, as the water levels in the Delta rise (game drives and walks can be more restricted during this time of year). Kanana is also great during the beginning of the green season at the start of the year (roughly Jan to April).

Kanana is a favourite destination of bird lovers. There is a seasonal heronry close to the camp (half an hour by boat), which is active between August and December.

Fishing facilities are also available at Kanana.

Child Policy

Children over the age of seven can be accommodated at Kanana Camp. There are triple rooms suitable for families, and the option to hire private vehicles for game activities (though this is not mandatory for families with young children, unlike at many other camps in the Delta)

As with most camps in the Delta, Kanana is unfenced and surrounded by water, so children will need to be under constant supervision.
