Kana Kara is a semi-permanent camp situated in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta, on the edge of the Selinda Spillway. Small, remote and intimate, Kana Kara is a modest camp ideal for safari aficionados who prioritise top game-viewing above luxury pampering. It consists of just eight Meru-style tents (all en-suite) and a central mess tent housing lounge and dining area. The appeal is in its location - the Selinda Spillway, which links the Okavango Delta to Chobe & Linyanti, is famous for its excellent game-viewing, and allows for a good mix of land and water-based activities - and authentic safari atmosphere.

The day at Kana Kara typically starts with a guided mokoro (canoe safari) to explore the lagoon and its myriad islands - during the morning there will also be opportunities to explore on foot some of the islands - then return to camp for lunch before heading out on an afternoon game drive, which ends with a sundowner at a scenic spot.

Kana Kara Camp has a nearby airstrip and can be easily reached flying from either Maun or Kasane.

Accommodation

There are eight East African-style safari tents scattered around the camp grounds, all positioned so as to make the most of the views of the lagoon and plains. The tents are a good size and equipped with en-suite outdoor showers, carved wooden furnishings, twin queen beds, canvas chairs, mirror and mosquito netting.

Meandering pathways, lit by hurricane lamps, connect the tents to the central mess area, which doubles as a lounge and dining area.

Dining

Meals are served around a shared dining table, either under canvas in the central mess area, or a scenic spot close to the camp - such as overlooking the lagoon. The lunch and dinner menus are fixed, so do give advance notice of any dietary requirements.

Meals at Kana Kara are cooked in the traditional style over an open fire. Guests are invited to help with the cooking, if they choose!
