Grumeti River Camp

Grumeti River Camp overlooks a busy watering hole in the Western corridor of the Serengeti. A laidback camp with a relaxed atmosphere, Grumeti is well-positioned for observing the seasonal migration.

Grumeti River Camp is located in a secluded valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti, from where it overlooks a tributary of the Grumeti River. Teeming with hippo and crocodiles, the river is lined by tall trees and is home to countless birds and troops of colobus monkeys. This region boasts some of the highest densities of cheetah in Africa as well as huge prides of lion and solitary leopards. It is also a fantastic place to observe the seasonal wildebeest migration.

Grumeti has a pool overlooking the river, and a lounge and domed bar where you can wallow the lazy hours away. The spacious decks are perfect for sundowners. Solar panels have replaced electric power to eliminate noise and pollution.

Grumeti River Camp is ideal for a long stay, or even for honeymoons. It's not the Serengeti's most plush camp, but it offers a service comparable with the best, and in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Accommodation

Grumeti River Camp consists of ten spacious tents under thatch canopies with vibrant interiors, furnished with African cloth and local sculptured furnishings. Each tented suite features a large bed made of Tanzanian cypress and comfortable deck furniture both indoors and outdoors. The rooms have overhead fans.

Ensuite bathrooms offer separate w.c.s and al fresco showers open to the sun and stars.

Dining

The meals at Grumeti are prepared in traditional stone ovens or on 'jikos' (fires), and served in the communal boma or open-air dining room. Expect plenty of African favourites prepared with fresh ingredients, as well as more familiar, international options.
