Garonga Safari Camp

Makalali Conservancy, South Africa

Garonga Safari Camp

Garonga Safari Camp is an intimate, 6-room safari camp in the Makalali Conservancy, adjoining the Kruger National Park. It offers luxury accommodation in a relaxed setting.

Garonga Safari Camp is an upmarket boutique-style tented camp and spa in the Makalali Conservancy, part of the Greater Kruger National Park. Though small, with only six tents accommodating a maximum of 12 adults, Garonga Safari Camp has the look and feel of a larger resort—the service is slick and professional, and the facilities excellent (spa, swimming pool, lovely bar). The lodge is booked on an all-inclusive basis.

Garonga Safari Camp has a very relaxed atmosphere, and offers you a lot of flexibility in terms of how you structure your day - you can choose when you head out on game activities and where and when you take your meals. Indeed, Garonga is as much about relaxation as it is about game-viewing. Makalali isn't the most game-rich region of the Kruger, and there are much better camps for those who want a pure, unadulterated safari experience. But as a stylish, intimate lodge in a remote location, Garonga Safari Camp stands out as something special.

Garonga Safari Camp has a smaller sister camp, Little Garonga, a highly exclusive three-bedroom property, also in the Makalali Conservancy.

NB. Garonga Safari Camp closes throughout March. Bookings are available during the rest of the year.

Accommodation

Just six tented rooms (12 beds). The camp generally accommodates 12 people at a time, but extra space can be made for families with children (max two adults and two children to each tent).

Garonga's rooms are lovely and spacious. Each is raised on a high wooden deck with a veranda overlooking the surrounding bush and watercourse. Inside they are furnished with comfy hammocks and lounge furniture to tempt you to relax. The interiors are bright and airy, and decorated with handcrafted furniture including large double beds decked in fine linens. The bathrooms feature both indoor and outdoor showers.

Dining

The menu changes daily at Garonga, as does the dinner venue—sometimes meals are served communally, sometimes privately at individual tables. The staff are flexible and will accommodate your preferences.

There's a good selection of South African wines.
