Finch Hatton's

Finch Hatton's is a substantial safari lodge in Tsavo West National Park, one of Kenya's least-visited safari parks.

Finch Hatton's is one of only a small number of safari lodges in Tsavo West, among the most remote and least-visited of Kenya's safari parks. Named after the big-game hunter Denys Finch Hatton, the lodge is a traditional safari lodge with colonial-era touches. Some will find the historic pretensions and old-fashioned decor excessive, but this is nevertheless the best option in Tsavo – well-managed and serviced with an attention to detail.

Finch Hatton's is located on the edge of natural freshwater spring, its spacious guest tents pitched on the water's edge. Hippo, crocodiles, and various plains game can often be seen.

Finch Hatton's underwent a major refurbishment in 2015. We have not visited the camp since it re-opened, but we understand that it now features fewer tents, allowing for a more intimate atmosphere, and has been refurbished throughout to modern deluxe standards.

Accommodation

Finch Hatton's accommodates its guests in 17 tented suties. The tents are permanent structures, built on wooden decks and under thatch, with twin beds and en-suite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers. Balconies overlook the spring in front of the camp.

Two of the tents are family units, feature two bedrooms. In addition, there is a single presidential suite, which, at 200sqm, is twice the size of the standard suites. Features include large outdoor deck with lamu bed, heated plunge pool, kitchenette and pantry, private lounge and dining area.

Dining

Breakfast and lunch are typically served outdoors on the terrace. Dinner is more formal, a multi-course meal served in the old-fashioned dining room.
