Erongo Wilderness Lodge

This remote wilderness lodge boasts a marvellous location in the Erongo Mountains, a region of great natural beauty in Namibia's central highlands.

Update (June 2020): Erongo Wilderness Lodge has closed due to the impact of the Covid pandemic. We are maintaining this page in case Erongo Lodge is in a position to re-open at a later date, though our understanding is that the lodge is likely to be closed permanently.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge is a secluded retreat nestled amid huge granite boulders on the edge of an ancient volcano. This is a region of great beauty, famous not so much for its game – Erongo shouldn't really be thought of as a safari lodge – as its marvellous landscapes. Walks are the order of the day here, allowing you to get a feel for this unique landscape, to explore its varied vegetation, animal and birdlife. Mostly, though, Erongo is a marvellous lodge at which to relax, while soaking up the views from the privacy of your own sundeck.

Erongo is a small lodge, with just 10 guest chalets, tucked away between the boulders and linked by wooden walkways and stone steps. The main lodge – housing the restaurant, bar and fireplace lounge in a partially open, thatched building – is located on a high hill with marvellous views over the surrounding landscape and a floodlit watering hole. A small swimming pool offers a welcome opportunity to cool off during the heat of the day.

Accommodation

Erongo Wilderness Lodge accommodates guests in 10 tented chalets, all built on stilts at the base of giant granite formations. The rooms have been built in such a way so as to avoid disturbing the environment. All of the chalets are secluded among the rocks, boulders and vegetation and are accessed by a system of wooden walkways; each of the rooms has its own niche, ensuring privacy and exclusivity.

The tents are traditional Meru tents, though they have been covered with thatch roofing and raised on wooden platforms. There are en-suite bathrooms at the back of each room, hidden amid the rocks and naturally occurring trees.

Dining

Meals are served in the indoor dining room or on the deck with a view. The menus are rich and varied.
