Epako Lodge

Epako Safari Lodge is situated in a private 11,000ha game reserve, just outside the town of Omaruru in the Damaraland region. The lodge was fully refurbished in 2013 and converted from a mid-range into a five-star retreat.

Epako Safari Lodge is situated in a private 11,000ha game reserve, just outside the town of Omaruru in the Damaraland region. For many years Epako was a bit of a 3-star bus stop, but the lodge was completely remodelled in late 2013 and re-opened as a five-star retreat, offering a high standard of accommodation in an exclusive wilderness reserve.

Epako enjoys a marvellous location in the foothills of the Erongo Mountains, Damaraland. It enjoys access to its own private game reserve, which houses a good variety of wildlife. There are a number of waterholes close to lodge, some within direct view, improving game-viewing opportunities considerably. Elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, eland and zebra can all be spotted, as, with a bit of luck, can desert rhino, cheetah and leopard.

Epako is a small lodge (just ten rooms), but it offers a wealth of facilities, including a swimming pool, tennis court, bar and lounge, and even a small aviary. Surrounding the lodge are well-maintained gardens.

The resort-style facilities means that Epako Safari Lodge lacks the rustic charm of some of our favourite Damaraland lodges, but for those who prefer to safari in comfort and aren’t keen on camping, Epako is perfect.

Accommodation

Epako offers a total of just ten rooms (six deluxe rooms and four individualised suites). The deluxe (standard) rooms are, at 60 square metres, very spacious. They feature king-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, private terraces, and are equipped with the kind of mod-cons you’d expect to find in a city hotel (satellite TV, mini-bar, AC, tea/coffee facilities).

Epako’s standout attraction is the 200 metre square Waterhole Suite, which comes with a fully equipped bathroom – complete with free-standing bathtub, indoor and outdoor shower – and a generous private lounge overlooking both the river and floodlit water hole.

Dining

Epako offers indoor and outdoor dining. The head chef will conjure up a mix of Namibian and French cuisine, complemented by South African wines. Special dietary requirements can be catered to with advance notice.
