El Remanso Lodge

Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

El Remanso Lodge

El Remanso Lodge sits on the Osa peninsula, in the far south of Costa Rica, where the verdant lowland rainforest meets the Pacific Ocean.

There are many geographical highlights to this region, including the famous Corcovado National Park, which covers almost a third of the peninsula; the lovely Golfo Dulce, a tropical fjord that is perfect for whale and dolphin watching; and Pena Blancas, a small national park adjoining Corcovado. This is a beautiful region of huge diversity, described by National Geographic as the most biologically intense place on earth, and the setting for El Remanso Lodge.

El Remanso is a small eco-lodge situated on a high, forested ridge on the south-eastern corner of the Osa Peninsula, with views over the Pacific Ocean. Built using local wood gathered from fallen trees, the lodge sits comfortably in its natural environment and offers a rustic retreat to those travellers seeking an alternative to a conventional beach lodge. El Remanso accommodates a maximum of 30 guests and is set within its own private reserve, ensuring a good level of privacy.

There are lots of activities on offer at El Remanso, including guided hikes, bird watching, canopy walks, kayaking, horse riding, and – for the more adventurously-minded! – waterfall abseiling, surfing and zip-lining. See our full list of activities at the bottom of the page.

Wildlife is phenomenal consisting of both land and sea mammals. Whales and dolphins may be seen off the coast and leatherback turtles and manta rays live in the ocean. The forests are home to an incredible range of mammals including four species of monkey, giant anteaters, tapir, sloths and many of Costa Rica’s big cats - puma, jaguar, ocelot and jaguarondi. These share the forest with thousands of butterflies, insects, moths, fireflies, frogs and spiders in this natural wildlife paradise.

Accommodation

There are 12 rooms divided into 5 categories – Poiniente (standard), superior, classic, deluxe cabin, and deluxe suite, the latter accommodating up to 6 guests in two bedrooms with private plunge pool and sun terrace.

The cabins are El Remanso’s most luxurious option. Set on raised platforms, such that they appear to sit within the tree canopy, they feature private plunge pools with fabulous ocean views. In addition to the single bedroom cabins, there is also a two-bedroomed deluxe cabin suite with shared pool and terrace.

The standard, superior and classic rooms lack the private plunge pools of the cabins and are set in bungalows closer to ground level – though also with fabulous views of either the ocean or forest owing to El Remanso’s location on a high ridge. These rooms are cool and spacious, and feature polished wood floors, wooden shutters, crisp white bedding, and colourful throws. The beds have mosquito nets and all rooms have ceiling fans.

El Remanso’s open-air restaurant is set on a raised platform overlooking the forest canopy and serves delicious organic food.
