Desert Homestead

Desert Homestead is a comfortable, mid-range lodge situated about 20 miles from Sesriem. As well access to the dunes of Sossusvlei, it offers fantastic riding safaris.

Situated about 20 miles from Sesriem and Naukluft National Park, Desert Homestead is a restored farmhouse that offers comfortable and affordable accommodation in a convenient location. It is a bit further from the region's main attraction, the great dunes of Sossusvlei, than other lodges, and this is reflected in the price.

If you ignore the relative distance from Sossusvlei than the location of Desert Homestead is one of its greatest assets. Tucked away in a remote valley, surrounded by the Naukluft, Tsari, and Nubib Mountains, and with views of the Namib Desert in the distance, this a true wilderness retreat. And to really allow you to get a feel for the landscape, Desert Homestead offers riding safaris as well as the usual driven excursions. The sunset riding safaris are a joy!

We like Desert Homestead a great deal. It's an intimate (20 chalets), comfortable and affordable lodge, with attentive managers. The location is beautiful.

Accommodation

There are twenty thatched, en-suite chalets, each with its own veranda positioned to make the most of the wonderful views. The chalets are comfortable, if fairly small and only lightly furnished. They are located close together and within view of each other, though far enough part to ensure a good level of privacy.

Dining

Meals at the Homestead are served in the dining room of the restored farmhouse or outside on the shaded veranda. Braai (barbecue) are prepared when the weather suits.
