Chitabe Camp

Chitabe Camp is situated within the Chitabe Concession, over 70,000 acres of pristine wilderness in the southern Okavango Delta. The camp offers excellent game drives and walking safaris, but only limited water activities.

The Chitabe Concession is 70,000 acres of pristine Okavango wilderness, located on the border of the Moremi Game Reserve and nestled between the two river systems. The area is seasonally flooded which transforms around half of the dry floodplains into a green oasis. Game-viewing in this region is generally very good, with Chitabe well known for its concentrations of cheetah, lion, leopard and wild dog.

Chitabe Camp is located in a diverse region of the Delta. Much of the surrounding terrain is heavily wooded, unlike the extensive plains of the northern Delta, which can make game-viewing more challenging. Illala palms dot the landscape, while game drives allow you to explore mopane woodland, acacia bushland and the Delta's narrow lagoons. Do note that water activities are heavily limited in this region of the Delta - 'dry' activities (walking safaris and game drives) are instead emphasised.

One of highlights of Chitabe Camp is its two elevated hides, where you can sleep under the stars.

Chitabe Camp offers eight spacious East African safari tents (one of which is a honeymoon tent with king-size bed) pitched beneath the tree canopy on elevated wooden decks. Each tented room has en-suite facilities with flush toilets and indoor and outdoor showers with hot and cold running water (no bathtub). The rooms at Chitabe are generously sized and attractively furnished with soft chairs and double beds. Each has a verandah with comfy seats for wildlife-viewing.

There is a thatched dining area on raised decks overlooking a waterhole as well as an open air dining area where sumptuous meals are served. Drinks are included except premium brands and champagne.

Environmental Policy

Chitabe Camp is run by Wilderness Safaris. Wilderness is a company at the forefront of eco-tourism who employ full-time environmentalists to ensure their camps are as eco-friendly as possible. Solar heating and power, limited burning of fossil fuels and utilising battery-operated lighting systems are standard. All camps are small, mostly tented and designed to blend into the natural environment. Their goal when designing new camps is to ensure that if the camp has to be moved the site can be restored to its natural state.
