Chaka Camp

Chaka Camp is a small mobile safari camp which shifts location between the northern and southern Serengeti in line with the great migration.

Chaka Camp is a semi-permanent camp designed to move throughout the Serengeti eco-system in pursuit of the Great Migration. From December to March the camp is located in the Ndutu area in the southern regions of the Serengeti. This is a prime game-viewing area that attracts huge herds of zebra and wildebeest during the migration as well as cheetah, giraffe, lion, hyena, wild dog and a array of birds. It is here the wildebeest and zebra give birth to their young and then remain to feed on the rich grasses of the southern plains before starting their incredible onward journey through the vast Serengeti.

From May to June Chaka Camp relocates to the Western corridor of the Serengeti near the Grumeti River, allowing for great views of the famous river crossings. From here it is only a 2 hour game drive to the Seronera region of central Serengeti, which is famous for its huge concentration of big cats. Chaka’s sister Camp, Kiota Camp, is located in the Seronera region and a combination of these two camps makes for a fantastic Serengeti safari.

Come July the camp moves to the northern Serengeti close to the Mara River, where there are many crossing points through which the herds travel back and forth between Tanzania and Kenya. The crossings here are the most dramatic with crocodiles and cats lying in wait for their next meal!
