Ancient Inn

Ancient Inn is a comfortable budget guesthouse with just six guest rooms and a marvellous location in the historic heart of Luang Prabang, a short walk from the market and Mount Phousi.

Ancient Inn is among the least expensive guesthouses in Luang Prabang, but it offers a lot for the modest rates it charges, including basic but comfortable rooms and a quiet location in the town's beautifully-preserved Old Quarter, a short walk from the night market.

For those travelling on a budget, Ancient Inn is among the very best options in Luang Prabang’s Old Quarter. We've been hearing reports that the owners plan to upgrade the building and rebrand as a luxury boutique hotel, but for now it's a wonderful low-cost option.

Accommodation

Ancient Inn offers just six guest rooms, two downstairs and four upstairs. The rooms are simply furnished and a little dark for our liking, but they feature the basic necessities, including air-con, room safes and TVs. The bathrooms are small but well-equipped, some with shower units only, others with bathtubs. Two higher category rooms (King and Queen) are larger and, in the case of the King room, feature a Jacuzzi.

The upstairs bedrooms have balconies, some with a view of Mt Phousi. In the early morning it's an ideal place to enjoy a coffee as the monks begin to leave their temples to gather alms.

Dining

Ancient Inn is booked on a bed and breakfast basis. There’s a small restaurant in the lobby area that serves a light continental breakfast with tea and coffee. No lunch or dinner, but the many restaurants and food stalls of central Luang Prabang are only a short walk away.

Child Policy

Children of all ages are accommodated at Ancient Inn and stay free of charge if under two years and sharing.

Please note that the rooms are small and there’s no space for extra beds. We wouldn’t recommend the Ancient Inn to families travelling with young children. There are much more suitable options outside the centre of Luang Prabang.
