Singita Faru Faru Lodge

Singita Faru Faru Lodge is a highly luxurious lodge situated in the southern Grumeti Reserve, where it enjoys a privileged window onto the great wildebeest migration that takes place in this region annually between June and August.

Opened in 2007, Faru Faru is the newest lodge in the Singita collection, and the third to open in the Serengeti. It is located in the southern Grumeti Reserve, close to the Western Corridor. This puts it directly in the path of the great wildebeest migration, which can typically be seen in this region between June and August.

Singita Faru Faru Lodge has an enviable location, perched at the peak of a small hill, overlooking a busy waterhole and the Grumeti River. The main lodge buildings—comprising open-plan dining room, bar, lounge and library—are all positioned so as to make the most of the striking views, as are the two swimming pools. The overall feel of the lodge is very much in keeping with the wild surroundings, with lots of natural stone, wood and thatch incorporated into its design. It’s a change of tone from some of Singita’s other lodges, which often seem much more obviously ‘designed’ and laboured over; Faru Faru, by contrast, has a very natural feel. You quickly feel at home here.

Activities at Faru Faru include, but are not limited to, 4x4 game drives. Guided walks are also offered, including in the dry bed of the Grumeti River during the dry season (beginning July). Riding safaris are offered at Faru Faru’s sister camp, Sasakwa, and the riding facilities are open to guests at both lodges. There’s a much greater variety of activities on offer here than at camps within the boundaries of the National Park.

Accommodation

Highly exclusive, Faru Faru has just six suites. These are permanent structures, not tents, with canvas roofs and solid stone walls. The furnishings are contemporary, and the décor and overall tone of the rooms rather muted. They come with hotel-style amenities, including air-con, electronic safe, and, in a particularly nice touch, remote controlled windows which extend across the front of the rooms and open with the flick of a button. Not your typical bush camp experience, then, but many will appreciate these extra touches!

The rooms at Faru Faru are all more or less identical in terms of layout and amenities, except for one family suite which is able to accommodate up to four.

Dining

Between the open-air dining room, bar and outdoor barbeque area, you have several different options for indoor and outdoor dining venues. Private candlelit dinners can also be arranged.

The menus at Singita Faru Faru are fixed, and the presentation as good as you would expect from a camp of this standard. There’s a well-stocked bar, and a wine menu to accompany evening meals.
