Onguma Plains Camp is one of several properties in the Onguma family, a collection of stylish lodges located in a small private reserve that borders Etosha National Park on its Eastern boundary.
Onguma Plains Camp is the most luxurious lodge in the Onguma family, and, with its unique architecture, also the most memorable. A far from typical safari lodge, it has been designed to resemble a fort, drawing on North African and Indian architectural motifs. Indeed, it has more in common with a Moroccan guesthouse than a classic safari camp, and it is only the endless pans that surround Onguma that remind you that you are, in fact, in Namibia.
The Onguma Reserve is located close to the eastern gate into Etosha, and most game activities take place within the boundaries of the National Park. Staying on the reserve offers a number of advantages, however, including greater privacy and a more diverse selection of activities, such as night drives (walking safaris, however, are not offered at Onguma). Though relatively small (50,000 acres), Onguma is home to a good variety of game, including the rare black rhino.
Accommodation
Onguma Plains has 12 air-conditioned mini-suites, each with a cosy bedroom and separate dressing room, and equipped with air-conditioning units and a personal bar. The spacious bathrooms have both an indoor and an outdoor shower area built on wooden decking. The suites have a music system, bar fridge, telephone, and Wi-Fi internet. Private decks overlook the pans. The design of the rooms continues to North African theme, with lots of rich reds and terracotta.
Dining
Delicious buffet breakfasts and multi-course lunches and dinners are served in a variety of venues—on the outside viewing deck, in the courtyard, or around the lantern-lit pool.
