Safety First
When travelling with Gane and Marshall you can feel secure in the knowledge that we operate to the highest safety standards. We have been involved in adventure travel for over 25 years, during which time we have organised frequent expeditions to extreme and challenging environments.

Risk Assessments
Each of the expeditions in our schools portfolio has been designed to suit the particular needs of school groups. We market only those challenges that our staff have direct and extensive experience of, and for which we have completed thorough risk assessments. All of our challenges are designed to be tough, but also to provide students with achievable goals.

Small Groups
We keep to small groups (8-12 students being typical) in order to ensure that adequate attention can be given to the wellbeing and safety of each participant.

Trained Leaders and Expert Medics
Gane and Marshall employ qualified UK leaders on all of our expeditions, in addition to local support staff. For our overseas challenge, we aim to ensure that there is at least 1 adult to every 6 students. Our medics are trained doctors and paramedics, and they travel with extensive medical kits.

Where available (e.g. East Africa) we also offer Flying Doctor cover.

NB. We do not send UK doctors on our Arctic challenges - for these we use experienced Norwegian first-aid medics.

Communications
All expedition teams to remote environments will travel with a satellite phone and GPS. There will always be an emergency UK 24hrs contact number to call.

Ground support
We employ carefully vetted local support teams with whom we have strong working relationships, in many cases developed over 25 years.

We do not cut corners on the ground. Wherever possible accommodation at the start and end of the challenge will be of comfortable 3-star+ standard, restaurants will be briefed on hygiene and provision of special diets, and private transport will be used in place of public transport.

Insurance
We are well insured as a company to protect you and your holiday money. Our main liability cover is with Travel and General, who have covered Gane and Marshall for over fifteen years. We are also one of the few UK tour operators to have in place catastrophe insurance to cover areas which normal client and tour operator insurances avoid, such as ash cloud.

Our Tour Operator Insurance with Travel and General gives £5,000,000 public and product liability protection, and £1,000,000 Professional Indemnity insurance. Again our many years of experience meanthat we have never had to call on our tour operator liability insurance.

Catastrophe Insurance: After much research into the cover afforded to our clients by the average personal travel insurance and the cover afforded to tour operators by typical insurance packages, we were aware that there was a gap in the insurance protection. We therefore decided to seek special cover just in case of special emergencies, which would not be covered by standard insurances. Gane and Marshall are one of the few independent tour operators in the UK to have this expensive protection, which gives you, and us, protection against otherwise uninsured losses occasioned by such events as ash cloud, volcanic eruption, windstorm, earthquake and any aftershock, tsunami, adverse weather, epidemic (excluding epidemics declared by the WHO to have reached phase 5 or above), riot, civil commotion, strike.

We also offer personal travel insurance cover for expedition members designed to cover activities, rescue, repatriation and health.

Training
We offer UK training sessions for all participants on our challenges. Attendance at one event is included in the cost of your challenge.

Contingency money
All of our leaders will carry adequate contingency money to be used in the event of an emergency.

Accreditation
We are members of Tourism Concern's Ethical Tour Operators Group, the International Society for Mountain Medicine, and the IMEC. We are ATOL Licensed (no. 3145).

Clare was extremely helpful, after just a few minutes she understood exactly what we were looking for.
